Double Ten Day in Taiwan (and secretly celebrated in China by many), commemorates the October 10,1911, Wuchang Uprising, an event that lead to the end of the Qing Dynasty and helped to create the Republic of China. These events can be seen in the Academy Award winning film, The Last Emperor.
Double Ten Day is enthusiastically celebrated in Taiwan and by its diaspora. The island nation would eventually would split off from China. To this day, China claims Taiwan as its territory and the Taiwanese claim independence and sovereignty from China.
